Welcome to Recycling in Conway!

We now have free curbside service to all residents within the Conway city limits! Click here for more specifics and/or contact us to order a cart.

Conway Recycles (see more details below):

Cardboard: thick & thin        Cans: Aluminum, Steel, Tin

Newspapers                           Paper: all types/most colors)

PHONE BOOKS & Magazines

Plastic BOTTLES #1 & #2     Plastic shopping bags

Although not collected at the curb, residents may also recycle E-waste (Electronics), Appliances, Specialty items, some hazardous materials, and tires in addition to offering ways to help you reduce your waste.  See below.

NOTE ABOUT CARTS:

The blue recycling carts are being phased in; if we are temporarily out when you place your order, your name

will remain on the list and a cart will automatically be delivered to your house when a new shipment arrives. Should this occur, we appreciate your understanding and  patience!

In the meantime,  you may  place your recyclables

at your curb in any labeled

                                      bag or reusable container ;

                           Please note that  a separate

                                      collection vehicle collects the

                                      large boxes & excesses.

What to put in your cart you ask?

Please note NEW ORDINANCE...

To reduce litter in your neighborhoods, Conway requires SMALL OR LIGHTWEIGHT ITEMS either be stacked inside each other, bundled/tied, bagged, etc. (anyway to keep items from blowing),  before placing in the blue carts. Large cardboard boxes that are too big for the blue cart, should placed three feet from the cart and secured to avoid blowing. Try this drop test...

DROP TEST for Small and lightweight items:

If, when you drop an item, it floats, flutters or bounces, the item should be secured before going in the blue cart; you may do that in anyway you want to, to prevent blowing litter.

Examples include plastic soda bottles; grocery bags; aluminum cans; any small items including small pieces of cardboard; paper ... especially shredded paper; newspapers - , inserts, etc

(This DOES NOT apply to businesses/ schools). Thank you for your cooperation!

(NOTE: All items going into the green trash cans must be bagged to avoid major littering issues.

Reminder: we do not recycle anything that goes in the green trash carts)

PLASTICS:

                 PLASTICS:

(PLASTICS)

NOTE: With the exception of PLASTIC shopping bags, white/clear trash bags,  and newspaper sleeves, all plastic must be in bottle form regardless of the # on the bottom (e.g. a butter container with a #1 or #2  IS NOT recyclable at this time) - the make up of the material, and the processing of  containers vs bottles are different. Also, the markets for containers are relatively few...especially without expensive equipment and sufficient storage on our end.

                   NEW!!

                       PLASTIC BAGS:

Plastic grocery bags, and newspaper wrappers are now recyclable.   No plastic wrap please!

PLASTIC BOTTLES CODED 1 & 2 (codes can be found in the triangle on the bottom of the bottle; bottle top should be smaller than the base)

RESIDENTIAL HAZARDOUS WASTE:  (also, see Commercial HHW)

The Conway landfill is NOT licensed to accept any toxic liquids, and will reject all

loads containing liquids or hazardous materials.

***Watch for announcements of special collection drives

  • APPLIANCES:  See Electronics below

  • BATTERIES:

Automotive:  Almost anyone who sells automotive batteries will accept

them. Call ahead to be sure.

Reusable:    Accepted at Lowe's Home Improvement (look for the box

                              inside the front door)

  • CHEMICALS, PESTICIDES and other flammables: ALWAYS READ THE LABEL!!

It is best to use it up according to the label; consider sharing your

excesses with friends or neighbors; or wait for the Hazardous and  E-Waste

               Collection drives.

(NOTE: Pouring it on the ground can harm our streams, lakes or ground

water; pouring it down the sink can be harmful, difficult and costly to treat

               at the water treatment facility.)

Click to see alternatives to toxic chemicals

  •    ELECTRONICS  &  APPLIANCES

These may be taken to  Conway Sanitation for recycling:

There is a minimal handling fee for disposal.

Conway residents should bring their ID and a current Conway Corp. bill in

order to get a reduced fee.

NOTE: If these items work, consider a free ad in the Log Cabin Democrat

(oftentimes,  there is no charge for free items). Also, please do not leave

computers at the reuse stores without their prior knowledge.  Some stores

will have collection program for a fee.

NEXT E-Waste drive for Faulkner County will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at

the Faulkner County Fair Grounds on Robins Street in Conway on the

               following days:

                               Businesses:  Wednesday,   September 10, 2008

                               Residential:  Thursday       September 11, 2008

This will be a free event to those in Faulkner County, and is sponsored

by the Faulkner County Solid Waste District.

  •     FLORESCENT BULBS: Some shops will take your old ones back for recycling

if you purchase new ones at their store (you will need to check with the

              individual stores).

Residents may take up to 16 bulbs to the landfill at a time (but they

may not be placed in the green trash carts). Conway residents should

take their current Conway Corp. bill and an ID to drop them off for free.

For your safety and the safety of our employees, residents who dispose of

products used in Home Health Care need to take special care for everyone

involved, including our Sanitation employees. It is always better to use a

professional disposal system, so if you currently have a doctor or home

health care provider that accepts your needles, bandages, IV bags,

etc., please continue to use this means of disposal.

If you do not have access to this, please place needles/bandages, or

any other type of contaminated medical materials, in a WELL LABELED

HARD PLASTIC,  SCREW TOP CONTAINER (a Sharps container or a

WELL LABELED detergent bottle will work) before placing it in the trash.

PLEASE, Medical Waste should NEVER be put in the Blue Recycling Carts.

  •    MEDICAL WASTE: see home health above

For the safety of our employees, No Medical Waste should ever be

placed in the Blue Recycling Carts.

OIL may be taken to most  Auto Parts stores OR  Wal-Mart  Tire Centers

FILTERS: Turn upside down to drain for a day or two: Conway Scrap

Metal will accepted well drained filters for recycling.

  •    PAINT LATEX (water based) ONLY:  Residential Quantities ONLY

             1)   First choice is to use it up ... if you only have a little, consider combining

                   it with another latex paint to give you enough to use as a base coat;

              2)  Share it with others

              3)  Residents (not commercial businesses) may dispose of small amounts of

LATEX paint if it is dried to a solid (80% minimum) using kitty litter,

sawdust or dirt - not sand; it should be capped in its original container

                   and labeled "solid"

NO ENAMEL PAINT may go into the landfill (this can be very damaging

                  and toxic to the environment)

Tires will not be collected at the curb.

Conway residents who bring an ID and a current Conway Corp. bill may bring

up to four passenger tires, off the rim, per day without a charge. There is a

handling charge for anything over that limit or for oversized tires (e.g.

             tractor tires).

Faulkner County residents may drop-off tires off the rim for a nominal fee.

NOTE: Commercial tire dealers with large volumes may want to consider

calling 450-6155 before coming out to make sure that there is sufficient

             room in the tire bin.
