Conway provides one 96-gallon green trash container to each of the 21,000 homes within the city limits; trash is collected once per per week (if you need an additional container, see the FEES section below). Conway also provides these homes with free yard waste, and strongly encourages residents to utilize its very easy, convenient and free recycling service in an effort to preserve resources and extend the life of our municipally owned landfill. We also provide service to approximately #### commercial & industrial businesses. The guidelines for these services have been established in order to allow us to provide efficient, equitable service to everyone.
Residential Services: Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste SPECIAL NEEDS : Residents with special needs should call 450-6155 to make arrangements.
GUIDELINES for Residential TRASH Disposal:
Trash Carts should be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on your regular trash day (day of collection varies-call 450-6155 if you are unsure of your day); See Holidays for any changes. Carts should be placed corrected (see below) in order to keep the systems running efficiently and to avoid any interruptions in your waste service.
* ACCEPTED WASTE in green trash carts: General household garbage ONLY: All garbage must be bagged and fit inside with the lid closed; keeping the lid closed will also help to avoid blowing litter in your neighborhood while emptying your cart. (see Options for excess & bulk waste sections below)
* Items NOT PERMITTED in the green carts: No construction debris, yard waste, tires, e-waste (electronics); No liquids or hazardous materials ... This can be very dangerous to you and to our employees! Please see Hazardous Waste below and check out the Specialty Items section on the Recycling Page
Yard Waste is collected separately and taken to our composting facility at the landfill... Click here for yard waste guidelines NOTE: The State of Arkansas has banned yard waste from landfills therefore, green trash carts with yard waste in them will not be picked up.
1) Place the excess garbage in your green cart for collection the following week
Monday through Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on holidays,
4550 Old Morrilton Highway (64 West - just 1/4 mile west of Hogan Lane);
City residents must take their current Conway Corp. Bill and ID with them to drop off regular household garbage for free (this does not include construction-type debris).
City residents will receive a reduced rate for constructions debris such as carpeting, wood other than furniture, bricks, etc. Conway residents will also receive a reduced rate when disposing of items that require special handling such as e-waste and appliances, too - see below
BULK WASTE and E-WASTE (electronics- also see Hazardous Materials below:
(Because of the toxic nature and bulk of these items, they are not collected at the curb as part of the regular household garbage collection.)
Appliances, furniture, construction and remodeling debris (carpet, sinks, doors, etc.), and other special handling items such as electronic items (computers, TVs, microwaves, copiers, cell phones, etc.) will be accepted at the landfill ONLY; they will not be picked up at the curb: There will be a small fee to dispose/recycle these items which take special handling. Conway residents who show the landfill attendant their current Conway Corp. bill and ID will be charged a reduced rate for these Special Handling items.
Electronics are very toxic to the waterways and environment when disposed of improperly. (A few companies offer special "take Back" or recycling programs for their customers. IF your old electronics still work, consider Reuse, too-click here for details)
Tires will not be collected at the curb. Conway residents who bring an ID and a current Conway Corp. bill may bring up to four passenger tires, off the rim, per day without a charge. There is a handling charge for anything over that limit or for oversized tires (e.g. tractor tires).
Faulkner County residents may drop-off tires off the rim for a nominal fee.
NOTE: Commercial tire dealers with large volumes may want to consider calling (450-6155) before coming out to make sure that there is sufficient room in the tire bin.
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS (residential quantities only)
CHEMICALS, PESTICIDES and other flamables:ALWAYS READ THE LABEL!! Use it up according to the label; Share your excesses with friends or neighbors; wait for the Hazardous and E-Waste Collection drives.
(NOTE: Pouring it on the ground can harm our streams, lakes or ground water; pouring it down the sink can be harmful and difficult to treat at the water treatment facility. It is best to use it up or wait for a special Hazardous Waste Collection Drive. Watch for announcements.
ELECTRONICS: The Lead, Mercury and many other elements in computers and other electronics, are very hazardous to our waterways and environment when disposed of improperly. When you buy electronics, be sure to check with the store to see if they have a "take Back" or recycling program for their customers. If they do not have one, be sure to take all electronics to the Conway Sanitation Dept. for safe disposal/recycling. Please see BULK WASTE & ELECTRONICS above.
FLORESCENT BULBS: Some shops will take your old ones back for recycling if you purchase new ones at their store (you will need to check with the individual stores). Residents may take up to 16 bulbs to the landfill at a time (but they may not be placed in the green trash carts). Conway residents should take their current Conway Corp. bill and an ID to drop them off for free.
(Residential) MEDICAL WASTE: (Click here for Commercial Medical Waste) For safety reasons, residents who dispose of products used in Home Health Care need to take special care for everyone involved, including our Sanitation employees. It is always better to use a professional disposal system, so if you currently have a doctor or home health care provider that accepts your needles, bandages, IV bags, etc., please continue to use this means of disposal.
If you do not have access to this, please place needles/bandages, or any other type of contaminated medical materials, in a WELL LABELED HARD PLASTIC SCREW TOP CONTAINER (a Sharps container or a WELL LABELED detergent bottle will work) Before placing it in the trash.
PAINTS:
LATEX PAINT (water based) ONLY: Residential Quantities ONLY 1) First choice is to use it up ... if you only have a little, consider combining it with another latex paint to give you enough to use as a base coat; 2) Share it with others 3) Residents (not commercial businesses) may dispose of small amounts of LATEX paint if it is dried to a solid (80% minimum) using kitty litter, sawdust or dirt-not sand; it should be capped in its original container and labeled "solid"
NO ENAMEL PAINT may go into the landfill (this can be very damaging and toxic to the environment)
(NOTE: Pouring it on the ground can harm our streams, lakes or ground water; pouring it down the sink can be harmful and difficult to treat at the water treatment facility. It is best to use it up, dry it out or wait for a special Hazardous Waste Collection Drive. Watch for announcements. )
Also, see Specialty Items in the recycling section
IMPORTANT:
Correct Placement: 1. Place carts on a flat surface at least 3 feet away from all obstacles (e.g., other carts, utility poles, mail boxes, vehicles, sign post, etc.) and within two (2) feet of the curb. 2. Place cart so that the handle (and wheels) face away from the street. The lid must be closed completely.
Incorrect Placement:
